About Delaware Street Commons

Cohousing communities are small mainstream neighborhoods that provide a new balance between personal privacy and living among people who know and care about each other. McCamant and Durrett

Delaware Street Commons is a diverse group of people, who have created the first cohousing community in Kansas. Since our first meeting in October of 1999, we have worked together to purchase land, design our homes and Common House and build our neighborhood.

We just finished building 21 energy-efficient condo-style new homes on our 2.2 acre site in Lawrence, Kansas. Award-winning environmental architect Kirk Gastinger designed our community, and Neighbors Construction Company, Inc. is busy building it for us.

Delaware Street Commons is a part of the historic East Lawrence neighborhood, itself a diverse yet close-knit community of mature trees, brick streets and front porches. We are within walking distance of the Lawrence Public Transit bus line and excellent public schools.

Our cohousing project is the first in Kansas and joins the over 70 completed cohousing neighborhoods in North America built since this Danish housing model came to the U.S. in 1989. We welcome new members to join us in creating this exciting inspiring neighborhood.
